Applications invited for Sport Coaching Development Programme

by isleofman.com 2nd April 2015
Applications are invited for an innovative development programme that will drive up coaching standards in local sport still further.

Only a limited number of places are available on the programme, which begins with a launch meeting on Wednesday 20th May.

The Isle of Man Strategy for Sport 2014-2014 recognises that developing coaching will lead to more people participating in sport, with resulting health benefits.

The programme is among initiatives being led by Trevor Christian, newly appointed as Isle of Man Sport’s first ever Sports Coaching Coordinator.

Trevor said: ‘There are exciting times ahead for coaching on the Isle of Man and I urge coaches who have a thirst to improve their ability to coach our sportsmen and women to get an application pack.

‘The programme will see experts from areas such as sports nutrition, psychology and injury prevention present their insights and knowledge on sports performance and coaching to our coaching and teaching fraternity.

‘Coaches at any level, from beginner to expert, are welcome to apply. Those who stand to benefit most from this initiative will be passionate about coaching, athlete-centred, open-minded and committed to engaging in the programme.’

Trevor said the programme was being labelled Sports Aid for coaches as it complements the assistance provided to athletes through Sport Aid scholarships awarded annually.

Application forms for the programme are available from sports’ governing bodies, by emailing trevor.christian@gov.im, ringing 688590 or visiting www.isleofmansport.com.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Friday 24th April 2015.

Full dates for the programme will be announced once applications have been processed.
