Manx Telecom has won the ‘Best Telecommunications PLC’ category of the prestigious UK Stock Market Awards – a recognition of the company’s success in its first year as a fully independent company. The Awards – which are in their fifth year and are sponsored by KPMG – were announced at a gala dinner held last week [March 26th] at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London and which was compered by BBC Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull.

The awards aim to celebrate the best publicly listed companies which have succeeded in building great businesses and rewarding shareholders. The ‘Best Telecommunications PLC’ category winner was based on corporate and financial performance, strategic and operational development and total shareholder return. Manx Telecom faced some tough competition with BT, Talk Talk, AdEPT Telecom and Telecom Plus also shortlisted for the award.

Manx Telecom became a PLC in February last year following a successful AIM (Alternative Investment Market) flotation. In its first year as a PLC, Manx Telecom has opened the first phase of its ?10million Greenhill Data Centre project; continued its investment in high speed broadband technology to bring superfast fixed line broadband to 87% of homes and businesses on the Island; and launched the Island’s first 4G superfast mobile broadband network which is now available to pay monthly and pay as you go customers. Mike Dee, Manx Telecom CEO, commented:

“To win this award is a deserved recognition of the success of the AIM flotation last year, and an indicator of the level of awareness of Manx Telecom in the City. Earlier this year the company was shortlisted for two more prestigious awards. Manx Telecom’s deployment of Huawei’s 4G technology was shortlisted in the GSMA Global Mobile Awards 2015 for the ‘Best Solution for Growing Smaller or Independent Networks Award’ in the ‘Best Mobile Technology’ category alongside global brands including Vodafone and Nokia. The company was also shortlisted in the ‘IPO of the Year’ category at the Quoted Company Awards which is the largest and most respected independent event to showcase the fastest growing UK-listed PLCs. The awards recognise the achievements of best performing quoted companies listed outside of the FTSE 350.
