Beach Buddies will make its final assault on the rubbish amongst the sand dunes in the north of the Island today (SUN 29th) as the deadline approaches for the bird nesting season.

After clearing Smeale last weekend, the group is even further north on the two miles of beach between Ballaghennie and the Point of Ayre today.

Anyone interested in taking part should meet at the Point of Ayre to the south of the lighthouse for a 10.30am start.

As usual, the buddies will provide all necessary equipment including litterpickers, gloves and bin bags and dispose of all the rubbish collected, recycling where possible.

From April 1st, there are restrictions on access to the sensitive parts of the coastline where seabirds breed is large numbers each year. In particular, the public is asked to avoid walking amongst the sand dunes above the high water mark where birds such as oyster catchers and terns make their nests.
