Ramsey promotion push on hold

by isleofman.com 28th March 2015
Ramsey still have to wait if they are secure promotion from South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Three after going down at third placed Wallasey on Saturday.

After a slip up at Knutsford a fortnight ago, the northerners were beaten 24-10 so are still not guaranteed a top-two finish.

A try for Matty Clague, plus a penalty and conversion from Scott Kneale, kept Ramsey in the game but it wasn’t enough to secure any points.

The Manx side still top the table but the lead is cut to just two points.

Ramsey have one game remaining – away at Capenhurst on April 18 - and know that three points will ensure a finish in the promotion places.

In Division One, Douglas ran out 20-17 home winners over high-flying Northwich.

Two Bryn Snellgrove penalties and a try from Laurie Williams gave Douglas an 11-0 half-time lead.

In the second half, Snellgrove hit his third and fourth before a penalty at the other end from Rich Dale, followed by a Jack Watts try which Dale also converted, hauled Northwich back into contention.

Snellgrove steadied the ship with his fifth penalty of the match before Northwich snatched a late bonus point courtesy of Watts’ second try and another Dale conversion.

There was also good news in Division Two as Vagabonds defeated Dunkinfield 21-10.

Ross Pulman and Aidan O’Shea both crossed for Vagas tries with O’Shea also kicking three penalties and a conversion to put Vagas into seventh place, level with Ormskirk, who lost at home to Orrell.
