Buchan School Sports Tour

by isleofman.com 27th March 2015

Below are reports from recent trips to the UK by Buchan School sports teams:

Buchan U11 Girls’ Hockey and Netball Tour

The Buchan School U11’s travelled to the UK to play hockey and netball against some of the top Prep Schools in England.  On the first day of the tour, the girls played in their very first competitive 7 a-side hockey tournament at Queens, Chester and came away with two draws and a loss which is a superb result for such an inexperienced side.  The second day of the tour took the girls to Uppingham in Rutland to play in the very prestigious Independent School Netball Regional Finals.  With over 300 teams taking part in this competition and only the top 20 schools qualifying for National Finals, the competition was tough!  Buchan girls put in some superb performances and after a day of 10 matches, the girls were exhausted but knew that they had all learned a huge amount.  The tour finished with a very exciting trip to Cadbury World as a reward for all the extra training and practice that had gone into the tour.  On their return, the girls proved how valuable an experience the tour was by winning all their games convincingly in the Southern Schools Netball Tournament.  They now progress to the IOM finals to compete against the top 8 Primary Schools.

Buchan Boys’ Rugby Tour

The Buchan Boys’ U11’s recently returned to school after a very successful 3 day tour to the UK mainland.  On the first day, The school took part in the prestigious Budge 7s tournament along with 15 other teams at Rossall School.  The boys performed superbly, losing narrowly in the semi-final, after wins against Manchester Grammar, Altrincham Grammar and Liverpool College.  The next day the school travelled to Stonyhurst College but unfortunately flooded pitches meant we had to play football on the astro pitch rather than the planned rugby match.  The A team won 9-1 and our B team won 8-1.  On the final day the Buchan U11s played Kirkham Grammar who are rated one of the top teams in the North of England.  Having lost narrowly to them on the Isle of Man last month ( 2 tries to 1) the boys were out for revenge, and in a most intensive match, we ran out winners by 1 try to nil.
Throughout the tour the boys were an absolute credit to the school and their sport, with Neil MacGregor, Buchan School Games Master receiving innumerable compliments about their manners and behaviour.

Stonyhurst 7s Tournament

Last week The Buchan School U11 rugby team travelled to Stonyhurst College to take part in their 7 a side tournament, along with teams from London, Wales and Ireland.   Some great rugby was played (a 49-0 win over Merchant Taylor’s School was the highlight), and in the final match, needing a draw against Stonyhurst to progress to the Plate final, the boys lost narrowly by 12 points to 10.
