Beach Buddies to make final assault on northern coastline

by isleofman.com 27th March 2015
Beach Buddies will make its final assault on the rubbish amongst the sand dunes in the north of the Island this weekend, as the deadline approaches for the bird nesting season.

Having cleared away large amounts of rubbish last week at Smeale, this weekend the team session moves further north, with the aim of covering around two miles of beach between Ballaghennie and the Point of Ayre.

On Sunday morning, from 10.30am, the meeting point will be at the Point of Ayre to the south of the lighthouse.

From April 1st, there are restrictions on access to the sensitive parts of the coastline where seabirds breed is large numbers each year. In particular, the public is asked to avoid walking amongst the sand dunes above the high water mark where birds such as oyster catchers and terns make their nests.

For the final session in this area until August, Beach Buddies will again provide all the necessary equipment, including litterpickers, gloves and bin bags and dispose of the rubbish collected, recycling where possible. All ages are welcome, particularly families, even if you have never taken part before. Everyone warmly welcome.

• Beach Buddies runs team beach cleaning sessions every weekend, usually on Sunday mornings, lasting a maximum of 90 minutes.
