Air Cadets welcome new members

by isleofman.com 26th March 2015
24 cadets from 440 (1st Manx) Squadron Air Training Corps have been fully enrolled into the Air Cadet Organisation.

Since joining the Squadron the cadets have learned about various subjects including the organisation and structure of the Air Cadet Organisation and the Royal Air Force, the history of flight, airmanship, first aid, map reading and expedition skills.  Cadets have also begun working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Scheme awards and BTEC qualifications.

The 24 cadets were enrolled into the organisation by the Squadron’s Chaplain Reverend Erica Scott at their Tromode HQ.  It was their opportunity to parade in front of their families, instructors and fellow cadets and vow to be dedicated to the Air Cadet Organisation.

Commanding Officer of 440 (1st Manx) Squadron, Wing Commander Pheric Thrussell, commented: “These cadets can be proud of what they have achieved - but this is only the beginning.  The Air Cadet Organisation has a wide range of activities on offer - not many young people arrive at school after a weekend or school holiday to share tales of adventures on the land and in the air!"

The Squadron meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings and is open to all young people aged 12-20. If you are interested in joining as a cadet or helping as an adult instructor please telephone 677240 (Monday/Wednesday evenings), visit www.iom-aircadets.org or see iomaircadets on Facebook.
