Western Civic Amenity Site announce partnership with Crossroads Care

by isleofman.com 25th March 2015
The Western Civic Amenity Site is gearing up to support Manx charity Crossroads Care through a new partnership.

Crossroads Care was first established on the Isle of Man in 1988 and is the leading provider of support for carers living on the Isle of Man. All their services are about giving time, improving the lives of carers and those with disabilities or illness and providing meaningful respite to someone looking after a family member or loved one.

As a charity the organisation raises ?1.2 million every year to run its charitable projects. As part of their social enterprise they run charity shops, providing work placements for people with disabilities and ex-carers looking to return to work, recycling goods and clothing, and raising funds to continue to deliver much needed services.  While every donation is gratefully received there are circumstances when unsalable items need to be disposed of.

In light of the increased disposal charges the Western Civic Amenity Site Board have been in discussions with Crossroads Care over how we can work together to reduce their disposal costs.

When items are brought into the Western Civic Amenity Site by Crossroads the site staff will sort the items and any that can be placed into the reuse area will be placed there, as per our existing policy. At the end of the 28 days, any items not taken from reuse, will be weighed so we can calculate the actual amount sent for disposal.

At the Western Civic Amenity Site, one of our main aims is to recycle as much as possible and currently we recycle around 69% of all waste brought into the site. Whilst we cannot guarantee this kind of reduction in disposal costs, we would hope to be able to help significantly reduce them.

The Western Civic Amenity Site is proud to be working with Crossroads Care and with some open dialogue and fresh thinking are able to offer this support without incurring costs to the Rate Payers in the West of the Island.

The staff at the Western Civic Amenity Site are looking forward to playing their part in supporting the great work Crossroads Care carry out.
