Local IT services company Skanco Business Systems Ltd is enjoying steady growth and over the past 12 months has increased its workforce of engineers to meet the demand from businesses across the island.
This year the company celebrates the 30th anniversary of its launch and remains proud of the fact that the Douglas-based company is still owned by its original stakeholders, all of whom are Manx residents. It is headed by managing director David Butterworth who was an ambitious 20-year-old entrepreneur in 1985 starting only with a desk, phone and file of contacts.
Last year Skanco took on 15 new employees, 14 of whom are in the technical team. Today, the total workforce numbers 48, which includes 30 qualified engineers of various levels and expertise. Demand for Skanco’s services, which has followed the growth of the business sector in the Isle of Man, comes from companies both large and small, the requirement for skilled IT resources being particularly buoyant recently.
Mr Butterworth admits that the Skanco ethos remains the same in 2015 as it was 30 years ago.
“To listen, not sell, to provide whole solutions not just products and, all important, provide customers with what they actually want,” he declared. “I’m also proud of the fact that Skanco remains 100 per cent Manx owned and all of us take pride in the service it provides to the island. Clients want a one-stop shop and our aim is always to be seen as the company to provide it.”
He added: “Much of Skanco’s growth has come about as a result of the high standard of services to our client base and one of our main strengths is our ability to identify and move into new areas. We have a superb, dedicated workforce and we anticipate further growth over the coming months as we are looking to expand our technical roles to include project managers and security consultants.” ENDS
