Consultation on welfare reform

by isleofman.com 23rd March 2015

The public is being invited to comment on bold changes that could be made to the pensions and benefits system.

Radical proposals are contained in a report published today that can be found at www.gov.im/ni-review and people have until May 15 to submit views. A summary of the comments will be published within six weeks of the closing date and the measures will then go to Tynwald for approval.

Treasury Minister Eddie Teare said: 'The National Insurance and Social Security systems touch all aspects of Island life and the reforms envisaged would be wide ranging in their effect. Through this consultation we are seeking views and contributions from all
interested parties to help inform decisions on the way forward.

'Following the consultation we will develop more detailed proposals about how the systems should look in the future. In the meantime I look forward to receiving submissions on this most important topic.'
