ABBA tribute concert to raise money for charity

by isleofman.com 23rd March 2015
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is supporting a charity concert in Douglas where some of the biggest disco hits of the 1970s and 1980s will be performed.

Acclaimed tribute performers ABBA Reunion will bring the classic songs of the legendary Swedish group to the stage of the Royal Hall at the Villa Marina to raise money for the South Douglas Old Friends Association.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company is bringing the group over to the Island free of charge.

Tickets for the show, which is on Saturday 25th July, are available now from villagaiety.com. In addition to the ABBA Reunion performance, which is open to all, there will be a disco for people aged over 18 featuring more 1970s and ‘80s music. Former MHK David Cretney, who was recently elected to the Legislative Council, will DJ.

Organiser Marc Lowey said: ‘This is going to be a great evening. ABBA Reunion put on a fantastic show, which has been acclaimed by the critics. It will be a chance for ABBA fans old and new to relive the hits, like Waterloo and Dancing Queen, and enjoy a fantastic party atmosphere, while raising money for South Douglas Old Friends Association.

‘We’ve had some fantastic support in organising this event, and I would like to thank the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company for its backing as well as our other sponsors VIP Bin Cleaning, 3FM, Raymonds B&B and Cannell Print.’

Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘With a leading ABBA tribute act and disco featuring more hit songs from the 1970s and 1980s, it sounds like this will be an entertaining fundraising event.  We’re pleased to be able to help South Douglas Old Friends Association by providing free transport for the group.’
