Champions edge out holders

by isleofman.com 23rd March 2015
Corinthians and Peel will meet in the showpiece of the women’s football season.
Corinthians yesterday (Sunday) defeated holders Gymns 2-1 in the semi-final of the Warehouse Fitness sponsored Women’s FA Cup.
In the other semi-final, Peel were too strong for Old Boys, recording a 5-1 success.
Melissa Bell was the hero for Corinthians with goals at the start and end of the first half to fire the Whites through at the expense of the holders, who had replied via an Eleanor Gawne penalty.
Peel had an easier afternoon with Becky Corkish, Emily Jones, Sarah Wignall (two) and Maxine Smalley putting them into a 5-0 lead before Helen Cooper scored a consolation for the Blackberry Lane side.
It will be the first time Corinthians and Peel have met in a women’s final.
