The pressure group Travel Watch says the Manx government must take the cost of improvements to the Liverpool landing stage out of user agreement negotiations.
Speaking for the final time before stepping away from the job, sea travel spokesman for the passenger watchdog, Dick Clague, told an audience a ?15 million scheme needed to replace the landing stage needs to be treated separately.
Steam Packet bosses last month claimed any replacement deal could be scuppered without agreement to renew the user agreement with the Manx government – which has an option to run until 2026.
