KPMG Prom Relay announced for third year

by isleofman.com 19th March 2015
?50,000 is the total to reach as KPMG invites teams of fun runners and serious athletes alike to take part in the annual KPMG Promenade Relay, on 26th June, 2015.

Now in its third year, the hundreds strong event will once again see competitors complete the 10km Douglas Promenade course in teams of either 2 or 4, this year in support of KPMG’s chosen charity of the year The Isle of Man Alzheimer’s Society and its fight against dementia.

This year, KPMG has set itself the target of raising ?20,000 for the charity, beating last year’s total of ?18,000 and reaching a grand total of ?50,000 raised by Isle of Man residents and companies over just three years.

The event, which is also sponsored by The Claremont, ILS World, Shoprite, Appleby, Barclays, RL360, Mann Link Travel, Microgaming and the Douglas Development Partnership, and supported by media partners 3FM, allows private and corporate teams to enter and raise their own sponsorship money, with cash prizes for the fastest and best dressed teams. First, second and third place prizes of ?300, ?200 and ?100 are available for the fastest and best dressed team categories.

Leading the fight against dementia, Alzheimer’s Society is a UK care and research charity which provides support to people living with dementia and their carers. Established in 1979, it is a membership organisation which improves the quality of life for dementia types which include Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, dementia with Lewy bodies, frontotemporal dementia, Korsakoff's syndrome, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, HIV related cognitive impairment, mild cognitive impairment, and other rarer causes of dementia. The charity currently provides a network of over 2000 services in over 230 areas across England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Event Coordinator Paul Cawley of KPMG also commented: “Last year’s relay was our most successful yet, with over ?18,000 raised by hundreds of runners and in front of hundreds of enthusiastic spectators. We had record times, perfect sunny weather, some incredible (and some quite disturbing) fancy dress outfits, and a great afternoon out all for a great cause. Team Kuta Experience came in with a record breaking overall time of just 33mins 41 seconds, kindly nominating Manx Cancer Help as their chosen charity, while Team Chicken Run fought of stiff competition from some geriatric joggers and Mexican wrestlers for the best dressed category, choosing to donate their winnings to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. The whole day was a great success for the competitors and the charities they so kindly took the time and effort to support. We can’t wait for this year’s event and I urge you all to get involved and show your support for a critical charity, The Alzheimer’s Society. I’ll see you on the start line!”

Commenting on the KPMG Promenade Relay 2015, Grahame Bell of the Alzheimer’s Society said: "The Alzheimer’s Society on the Isle of Man is incredibly pleased for the support of the local KPMG team in raising funds for the charity this year. The Alzheimer’s Society on the island has its own Manx charitable status and any funds raised locally are used to benefit people living with all types of dementia on the Isle of Man. The charity is funded entirely through the good will of local individuals and businesses such as KPMG, who raise awareness of the condition through fun events for local people to enable us to achieve our vision of a world without dementia. Our thanks goes to everyone on the committee for their incredible hard work and enthusiasm on behalf of everyone living with dementia on the Isle of Man."

The event takes place on Friday 26th June, 2015 at 5:30pm.
