Isle of Man residents were treated to a light show as the Aurora Borealis came south last night.

This photo was taken by Bill Dale at The Lhen. Thanks to a massive solar flare, the Aurora Borealis could be seen as far south as the midlands in the UK. The phenomenon is created by the interaction of solar wind from the sun and Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere and is usually seen only in the far northern hemisphere.
