IOM Archery Club Report - 15th March 2015

by isleofman.com 17th March 2015

A relatively small group of archers met at Onchan on Sunday to shoot a Worcester round as part of the Club’s Scratch League.

Newcomer Jacob Brooks attempted the round for the first time and Lesley Sleight made a welcome return to Club shooting.

The Gents Compound division was the usual face-off between Pete Mumford and Colin Moore. Mumford led from start to finish and dropped just 3 points over the whole round.

Joy Gough was once again the sole archer in the Ladies Compound division, but even without the spur of competition she dropped only 3 points to equal her personal best for the round.

Things were much closer in the Gents Recurve section with Tony Hartley, Danny Cowin and Rhys Moore all battling it out. Rhys had yet another bad day at the office and was quickly out of contention but Tony and Danny were neck and neck all the way.

Tony held the lead until the midway point when Danny managed to overtake Tony by 1 point. Cowin clung on to his 1 point advantage for the next round and went into the final round in the lead. Tony Hartley put in a score of 46 and Danny managed a total of 45 which meant the match ended in a draw. The result was decided by number of golds hit, which gave the win to Tony Hartley.

The handful of Juniors who turned up had a good day. Lone Junior Girl Charlotte Harris was breaking in new arrows as well as a new bow but still managed to record a score that was just a few points off her personal best for the round. The Junior Gents faired even better with Bradley Layton adding 19 points to his pb to take the win. James Hill added 21 points to his pb to finish second and Jacob Brooks set a benchmark by shooting the round for the first time.

Lesley Sleight put her Traditional American Flat Bow to good use by equalling her own Club record for the round.
