Olympic Handball Winter League - Final 4

by isleofman.com 17th March 2015

The inaugral IoMOHA Winter League came to a thrilling conclusion on Saturday at the NSC, with Derby Square Teramo (DST) edging out Rhumsaa Raiders 10-9 in the Championship play-off final to be crowned Champions 2015.

The first semi-final saw Rhumsaa just about overcoming Onchan by 1 goal. Although Onchan's Max Greleweicz outshone in the game, it wasn't enough to hold back Rhumsaa's David Rousseau who netted 6 times.

In the second semi-final DST overpowered the youngsters of St Ninian's.  Niall Quinn, St Ninians, keeper was the star of their team but the Douglas outfit had too much experience in their line up.

This set up a final which many would have put money on DST to run out as winners. However, Rhumsaa had other ideas and although two goals down with only a minute left on the clock, fought back to even the score at 9-9 and force a Golden Goal decider in extra time. The experienced Meron Shani drew a penalty foul from the Rhumsaa defence and converted it it to the relief of the DST team.

Many thanks to all who have participated in this first competition. The IoMOHA will now turn its attention to introducing the game to beginners over the summer period.  Anyone interested in having a go at handball will be very welcome at Bemahage 6pm-8pm from Tuesday 14th April.
