Castletown murder trial underway

A trial at Douglas Courthouse has heard a Ballabeg man killed more than a year ago suffered extensive injuries.

Today, the prosecution opened its case against 45 year old Ian Anderson of Queen Street in Castletown.

He denies murdering 60 year old Neil Roberts between November 29 and December 2, 2013.

Linda Watts, prosecuting, told the hearing Mr Roberts suffered more than 19 injuries to his face alone.

His body was discovered at the house in Castletown Mr Roberts shared with his wife.

Consultant Pathologist William Lawler said Mr Roberts had suffered more than 40 external injuries, which Mrs Watts said was the result of sustained kicking and punching.

The trial resumes at 10am on Tuesday morning, when jurors will visit sites crucial to the case including the scene of the killing.
