By-elections in Douglas

by isleofman.com 16th March 2015

There will be two by-elections in Douglas ahead of next year's General Election.

This morning, members of the House of Keys put North Douglas Bill Henderson in the Legislative Council with 17 votes. In a later round of voting, South Douglas MHK David Cretney gained a seat on LegCo with 13 votes, the minimum number allowable.

The sitting resumes this afternoon to try to fill the remaining two seats. This morning there were eight secret ballots with no results from rounds 6, 7 or 8. Education Minister Tim Crookall was a new candidate, nominated at round 4. Advocate Christopher Kinley dropped out before round 5.

The candidates still hoping to win seats are outgoing MLC Phil Braidwood, advocate Paul Beckett, Mr Crookall, and David Anderson MHK.
