Following the huge interest in Howard Parkin’s “Dark Skies at the Sound – Solar Eclipse Breakfast”, coinciding with the partial eclipse on Friday 20th March, which is now fully booked, Manx National Heritage has organised an additional event at Niarbyl at the same time, presented by Astronomical Society member and regular speaker Richard Shafto.
Richard has been a member of the Isle of Man Astronomical Society since 1992 and has given talks on subjects as varied as Dark Matter, the Cosmic Microwave Background, Galaxies, Venus and the Mars Rover.
Guests will be able to enjoy a full cooked buffet breakfast in the Niarbyl Bay Cafe followed by expert and entertaining commentary from Richard as they enjoy the spectacle of the various stages of the eclipse.
The Isle of Man is widely recognised as one of the best places in the British Isles for stargazing due to the lack of light pollution and cloud cover. As one of the Island’s specially recognised Dark Skies locations, Niarbyl Bay will be an excellent place from which to view the eclipse. Friday’s eclipse will see the Sun being 92.8% obscured by the moon by 9.31am. The event starts at 7.30am.
Tickets are priced at ?22 which includes Richard’s presentation, a full cooked breakfast and solar safe viewing glasses. Tickets are available from the Manx Museum Gallery Shop and online at www.manxnationalheritage.im on a first come first served basis.
