Health Minister Howard Quayle represented the Isle of Man at a British-Irish Council meeting in Edinburgh yesterday.
The topic was improving the quality of life for older people and how the member nations tackle the issue. BIC officials had examined several local projects including the Manx Decaf cafes, Southern Befrienders and Live at Home schemes.
Mr Quayle said: 'I would like to thank our many voluntary and community organisations for their activities which contribute to reducing the isolation of our older people as well as for their contributions to the BIC research.
'The British Irish Council helps us to learn about developments in other administrations and has already given us some joint working opportunities with colleagues in the Channel Islands.'
