A one-stop guide highlighting the assistance that’s available when starting or growing a food or drink business can be found online.
 
The Departments of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) and Economic Development (DED) have produced Food and Drink Production Assistance, available via www.whereyoucan.com/Sector/Manufacturing-Food-and-Drink.aspx (see downloads).
 
Tynwald has approved ‘Food Matters’ – a blueprint to grow the value of the Isle of Man food and drink industry by ?50 million over the next decade.
The development of a distinctive and sustainable local food and drink sector is a key aim of Vision 2020, the Government’s strategy for economic success.
 
Richard Ronan MHK, Minister for Environment, Food and Agriculture, said the guide incorporates the financial assistance that’s available to those starting a business or diversifying into new areas.
 
It includes details of training that’s on offer in areas such as marketing, innovation and customer service; information about the Isle of Man Food Park and links to trade organisations that offer support and advice.
 
‘Starting a food or drink business or diversifying into new areas is a big step. There’s financial and practical support available and this guide makes it accessible and understandable,’ the Minister said.
 
Hard copies of the guide can be obtained from DEFA at Thie Slieau Whallian, Foxdale Road, St John’s or the DED at St George’s Court, Upper Church Street, Douglas.
