UN Association & Friends of the Earth discuss “The Biggest Trade Deal Ever”

by isleofman.com 12th March 2015

At 7pm on Tuesday 17th March at Keyll Darree Lecture Theatre, Nobles Hospital, the United Nations Association of the Isle of Man and the Isle of Man Friends of the Earth will host a presentation by Sam Lowe, Friends of the Earth trade agreement specialist from London, on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), a behemoth trade agreement between the USA and the European Union currently being negotiated behind closed doors in Brussels and Washington.

The TTIP has recently drawn media attention not only for proposed changes to provide trade harmonisation and to the use of tariffs, but also for concerns raised over the perceived impact to the environment, to consumer rights, and notably, the threat of litigation against governments.

Sam will provide an informed insight on the proposals for the TTIP agreement, on the negotiations thus far, and will draw upon the unique position the Isle of Man finds itself in, not being an EU Member State.

For further information please contact Andrew Newton, United Nations Association, via ecoperatives@hotmail.com or 427925; or, Kerry Hudson, Friends of the Earth, via iomfoe@manx.net or 302438.
