Locally educated illustrator returns for talk

by isleofman.com 9th March 2015
A locally educated illustrator is returning home to give a talk next month.

Keith Burns went to Queen Elizabeth II High School and then studied art at the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education before going on to the University of Central England.

Keith has worked as an illustrator for a decade, specialising in comics.

In the last year he has worked on The Shadow/Green Hornet and Ex-Con for Dynamite, Castles in the Sky for Avatar, Duel in the Sky for Franklin Watts and Erks for Aces Weekly.  He is currently working on Battle classic Johnny Red.

Keith’s other clients include the BBC and the Imperial War Museum, for whom Keith illustrated animatics for the ‘Extraordinary Heroes’ exhibition – one telling the story of Lance Sergeant Johnson Beharry, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for saving colleagues under ambush in Iraq.

As an associate member of the Guild of Aviation Artists, Keith has exhibited at its annual show in the Mall Gallery since 2011. He also took part in the Royal Society of Marine Artists’ exhibition in 2012.

Keith’s talk will take place at the Market Hall, Douglas, on Thursday 30th April at 6.30pm, and is free to attend.

His visit is part of the Citywing-supported ‘Artist on a Plane’ initiative organised by the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education, which runs arts degree courses at the Market Hall.

Citywing is funding visits by artists, including Keith’s return trip to the Isle of Man from Gloucester, as a continuation of its commitment to Island of Culture 2014.
