Juan Thornley, Counsel in Appleby’s Corporate department, will discuss ‘Directors’ duties: mitigating the risks” at the next Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) Isle of Man branch event, to take place on 25 March 2015 at the Claremont Hotel, Douglas. The seminar will involve a brief recap of the duties to which directors are subject, with particular reference to recent offshore case law, and will outline practical steps to reduce the risks to the board.
Juan is an Isle of Man Advocate, British Virgin Islands solicitor and English solicitor (non-practising) and was seconded to Appleby's Cayman Islands office during 2013. He qualified with Appleby in 2005.
He advises on a broad range of corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, private equity and joint ventures, as well as banking and asset finance transactions. He has extensive experience of advising financial services businesses (particularly banks and insurers) on a range of matters from restructuring to ongoing compliance and he regularly acts for clients of fiduciary service providers and companies within the e-business sector.
