The final night's action in the 2014/15 Ablec electrical Ramsey men's darts league and with the league already won by the mighty Plough A the attention turned to the individuals who were trying to win a spot in the presentation night's two competitions, the masters which is for the top 16 players and the players cup which is for the next 16 placed players.
RAOB 2 - 7 Traff
The Traff have been very much the old-school team what with their rather noisy nights but it went unusually quiet after Martin Timoney put The Buffs into a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately it didn't last and the Traff were in full song by the time Charlie Cormode wrapped up the points in game six to make 5-1. Tank partnered by Darren Hadley in what's rumoured to be his swan song (we will miss the bulls Darren) won The Buffs second game but it was a cruise by The Traff boys. Their top man yet again Alan Kinrade with a 17 darter and a fine 142 finish. John Piekalns & Jay Radcliffe booked themselves into the players and Busbie well into the mix of the masters.
Bar Logo AAA 4 - 5 Mitre
Lots of nerves on show as most players were looking after their own hopes. Simon Maccuish dealt Michael Quayle the worst cards as this defeat meant Mike missed out on the players but it gets The Logo crew off to a great start. Stu Corlett knew a win would seal his place in the masters and he didn't let it slip as he beats Ross Walker. Jason Smith still had an outside chance of a masters spot but he knew and he was still hoping others would lose. He won but the others didn't lose but the win seals a good seeding in the players.
Glenn Charnock and Roy Dunlop both won for The Mitre to give them a buffer and book a spot in the masters and players respectively. Thsy also won two pairs matches to book the points.
Central 1 - 8 Plough A
The Central had plenty trying to get into the masters but only one made it, Paul Allison, and the only win for a very good Central side. Will be good to see if they stay together for another year. Even though David Simpson had the disappointment of not making the masters in his first year of darts but a third seed in the players and ninth overall stat leader means he had a fantastic year and will be one to watch in all the up and coming comps.
The Plough have blown away everyone at a point this year and with their solid six all making it into the top 20 proves their class. Steven Waters lost out on Tuesday but goes into the players as number one seed and his mate James Arneil just left the run too late but will be seeded four in the players. Gazza Uren , Geoff Howland and Paul Palmer were already booked a spot so it was down to the legend Andrew Hudgeon to prove his coolness and makes it into the masters.
Bar Logo A 6 - 3 Bar Logo
Ian M Fields got the A team off to a solid start as there was no pressure on his shoulders as he was already a qualified masters. Simon Griffin who lost was now looking over his shoulder as to whether he would make the players but he did. Jamie J Skillan drew this match level with a win over fellow players qualifier Alan Young. Jamie another who left his run just too late, seeded two. Anthony Collis, what a star find, comes into the league at the halfway point and with this win books the final players spot and also finishes the highest ranked under-25 player. Both Barry Sharpe and John Taylor stepped up knowing the win would seal their masters spot. It went right to the wire as Barry was waiting on double 16, JT hits a 140 to leave tops. Barry missed but JT didn't. They both booked their spots. Another must win for both Andy Evans and Scott Dalton. Andy was looking at the masters and Scott was trying to cement his players slot. Another great close game but Andy won the match to book his spot and a 3-2 on the night. Paul 'Aggie' Arthur v Dave Faragher - Aggie had his spot already booked so no pressure but Dave had to win to book his. Aggie won it 2-1 and how important that one leg for Dave was because of it he takes the sixteenth spot by that leg difference.
The pairing of Aggie and Ian sealed the win on the night but not before blowing the chance of a 10 darter. Aggie hit 180, Ian followed it up with 121. 200 left after six but it wass too much and Aggie blowed it so badly he didn't even leave his partner on a finish, oh well.
Focus quickly changes to the competitions now as we play right through to May 15th. This coming Tuesday will see The Plough-sponsored house pairs followed the following week by the finals night in The Plough. The draw for this and The Mitre-sponsored 5 aside are in the venues along with the remaining comp dates.
