The Department of Infrastructure and Manx Utilities are working in partnership to carry out important upgrades on a section of the main Peel to Douglas road at Glen Vine.
Manx Utilities will be on site from tomorrow morning (Tuesday 3rd March) to start work on the installation of new water mains and service connections. The scheme is expected to take up to three weeks and traffic signals will be in operation to help maintain the flow of vehicles.
Highway resurfacing will be undertaken by the Department of Infrastructure early in April, in advance of this year’s TT Festival. The junction to the Glen Darragh Road will be closed during this phase of the project, with diversions in place via Old Church Road.
Work had also been scheduled in March to improve a section of Cooil Road between the Ballacottier roundabout and Mount Murray Back Road. However, the Department has decided to postpone this scheme to avoid any potential disruption to traffic while the installations in Glen Vine are progressing.
The Manx Utilities work in Glen Vine involves the replacement of cast iron water mains dating from 1961. The frequency of bursts on the existing mains has increased in recent years, making the current scheme a priority. The installation of new mains and connections will improve services to a number of properties in the area and help to mitigate the risk of a burst causing disruption to the 2015 TT Races.
Stop/go traffic signals will be in place from tomorrow morning and the pedestrian crossing will operate as normal. A crossing patrol officer will be on duty from next week to assist children attending Marown Primary School.
