Newspaper defends 'coup' article

by isleofman.com 26th February 2015
Isle of Man Newspapers has defended an article claiming a minister was plotting to oust Chief Minister Allan Bell.

The Manx Independent claimed Juan Watterson was involved in planning a vote of no confidence in Mr Bell – but the Home Affairs Minister described the claim as “a first-class piece of rubbish”.

Today, however, Isle of Man Newspapers editor Richard Butt stood by the story, saying it had been substantiated by a number of different sources.

He also backed reporter Adrian Derbyshire who wrote the piece, saying he’s an experienced and capable journalist.
