Team's bid to grip shopping decline in Castletown

by isleofman.com 26th February 2015
A fresh attempt's being made to bring new shopping and leisure facilities to Castletown.
A 'town team' has been created - its aim, to make the ancient capital more attractive to visitors and business.
High on the agenda will be halting the decline of the retail trade and improving Castletown's reputation around the Island.
The town team will see a concerted effort by local traders, civic leaders and retail specialists, to enhance Castletown's offer.
It's the result of a study carried out last summer by independent consultant Martin Sewell, who reported on the current state of trading and made suggestions for improvement.
Mr Sewell will chair the town team, which will include local traders, business people, the chamber of trade and two commissioners.
Together they aim to improve perceptions about the town and find practical ways to bring more people to it, for shopping and leisure.
The venture will also have input from the Cabinet Office regeneration manager and DED's retail development team.
