Microgaming provides Yacht Club with new lift

by isleofman.com 25th February 2015
The Microgaming Health & Care Trust’s most recent donation has enabled the purchase of a much-needed replacement stairlift for the Douglas Bay Yacht Club.

The Douglas Bay Yacht Club (douglasbayyachtclub.com) has over 150 local members. Affiliated with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), the club offers full racing programmes for new and existing members. It also acts as a training centre, running a variety of courses from basic "Learn to Sail" up to the full "Yachtmaster Offshore" theory qualification.

The club’s excellent facilities, located at The Tongue, Douglas Harbour, are utilised by a number of organisations, including local companies for meetings, and the Sailing for the Disabled, a Manx-registered charity which provides adults and children who suffer from medical conditions that affect their day-to-day lives with the opportunity to go sailing.

The club prides itself on catering for all members, no matter their ability, and so when their stairlift reached the point of no repair, they sought support from the Microgaming Health & Care Trust. The trust eagerly stepped in to pay for a new stairlift, which is now fitted and fully-functional.

Ron Spencer, RYA Training Principal at the Douglas Bay Yacht Club, commented:

“We are very grateful to the Microgaming Health & Care Trust for stepping in to provide the club with an operational stairlift. It enables us to continue to support our club members who are less able-bodied, as well as the likes of the Sailing for the Disabled, who have been utilising the club’s facilities for many years now.”

Dr. Roy Clague, Trustee of the Microgaming Health Care & Trust, added:

“Douglas Bay Yacht Club is a venue which is used on a daily basis, so it’s important the club is accessible to everyone; that’s why we donated the funding for a new stairlift. We were more than happy to help.”
