Jersey invites Miliband over for talks following offshores comments

by isleofman.com 25th February 2015
Jersey has announced it’s invited Labour leader Ed Miliband for talks over his recent criticism of the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
It’s after Mr Milliband said if he wins May's general election he’ll demand more transparency about offshore company ownership.
Mr Miliband threatened to put Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man on a tax blacklist unless they comply.
Jersey now says it’s invited him to the island for discussions.
Jersey's Chief Minister Ian Gorst has written to the Labour leader expressing his disappointment at the comments, making the case for Jersey as a reputable jurisdiction and inviting him over for talks.
He says the Channel Island is fully committed to compliance with international standards of financial regulation, anti-money laundering, transparency and information exchange.
There has been criticism in some quarters about the lack of reaction from the Isle of Man - a question was due to be asked in the House of Keys this week by Michael MHK Alf Cannan but was withdrawn with Treasury Minister Eddie Teare absent from the sitting.
