Scallop fisherman fined ?10,000

A skipper has been given a substantial fine, after illegally fishing for scallops.

Girts Prizevs was found fishing in an area south of Chicken Rock which is a breeding ground for king and queen scallops.

When detained in Port St Mary, 21 bags of scallops were found, worth ?1,550.

The Deputy High Baliff ordered the catch to be seized and for Mr Prizevs to be fined ?10,000, plus ?125 costs.
