The Isle of Man Council of Voluntary Organisations has just announced its programme of members’ meetings for the spring and summer.
These commence on Thursday next the 19th February when Mark Lewin Director of Government Technology Services, and Mrs. Yvette Mellor from the Cabinet Office will be the guests and will update on progress on the development of the strategy so far, discuss some of the key themes emerging and give the third sector the opportunity to provide input into this important topic.
“This is a significant opportunity for us to input into this most important piece of work not only on or own behalf but also in relation to those we represent” said a CVO spokesman.
On the 19th March Hon Phil Gawne MHK, Minister and Mrs. Kate Beecroft MHK, Department Member, Department of Infrastructure, will lead a discussion on the potential for a Community Transport Service for the Isle of Man On the 16th April Mrs. Caren Pegg an experienced local advocate, partner in Appleby Global and Head of their Employment Team, will outline the implications of the proposed Equalities Bill 2015 on the way in which third sector organisations operate Later in the year subjects to be covered will include End of Life Matters and Mental Capacity incorporating Deprivation of Liberty.
All meetings will be held at Masham Court, Victoria Avenue, Douglas commencing at 6.00pm. All third sector organisations are welcome to attend and tea and coffee will be available from 5.30pm but should e mail cvo@manx.net to indicate their attendance.
“The CVO believe that the current economic climate brings many challenges to the sector but at the same time offers considerable opportunities, provided it positions itself appropriately. Charities and those leading them need to be equipped to deal with the needs and obligations of the 21st century and to ensure that they are meeting their obligations. This programme is designed to do just that” added the spokesman.
