by isleofman.com 16th February 2015
Entries are now open for the 2015 Microgaming Isle of Man Marathon and Half Marathon which takes place on Sunday 9th August.

Held annually in Ramsey, the Microgaming Isle of Man Marathon and Half Marathon attracts hundreds of athletes from around the world. Runners can take part in either the full (26.2 mile) or half (13.1 mile) race, both of which commence on Mooragh Promenade and finish at the Ballacloan Stadium on North Shore Road.

Having established itself as one of the most picturesque and friendliest events in the racing calendar, over 450 competitors signed up for the 2014 event; the largest intake to date. Even the cold and rainy conditions couldn’t dampen spirits with a highly competitive field taking part. Ed Gumbley won the men’s Marathon and Nikki Boyde won the women’s Marathon, both local runners. The men’s and women’s Half Marathon was won by Philip Caine and Bev Wright respectively.

Colin Watterson, Chairman of Isle of Man Veteran Athletes’ Club, commented:

“We’re incredibly proud of our event’s great reputation; preparation for 2015 is well underway and we look forward to another successful race. We encourage all those who have partaken in the past to enter; it’s always fantastic to see familiar faces each year. Furthermore, we encourage those who are new to running and want to challenge themselves, to sign up; we promise it’s a great event to be a part of!”

Claire Coleman, Head of Microgaming PlayItForward, added:

“The marathon committee work incredibly hard to put on this event and we’re delighted to be a part of it for the third consecutive year. I have no doubt that this year’s race will be best and biggest local marathon yet!”
