Damaged propeller on Ben

by isleofman.com 13th February 2015

Engineers have worked through the night on engine problems with the Ben my Chree that saw passengers stranded on board the vessel in Douglas harbour.

Overnight sailings were cancelled but passengers for this morning's Heysham service are being asked to check in no later than 9.30am when a further announcement will be made.

The boat was unable to manoeuvre into dock as it entered Douglas harbour yesterday evening. Passengers were finally able to disembark around 10pm.

In an update released this morning, the Steam Packet says engineers are still working on a damaged propeller, adding: 'They are in the process of changing components in one of the propeller control systems and this should be completed within the next few hours. When completed the system will be tested and, if successful, it is hoped the Ben will then be able to resume her sailing schedule.
'The Ben sustained damage to her port propeller system when entering Douglas harbour yesterday evening.'
