Ben-my-Chree engine problem leaves passengers stuck for extra four hours

by isleofman.com 12th February 2015
Passengers on this evening's Ben-my-Chree sailing to the Isle of Man endured an extra four hours on board.
Its port-side engine stopped working as it came into Douglas harbour, not long before 6pm, leaving it unable to manoeuvre.
It was initially thought fishing gear must have become tangled around the propeller.
Divers who went down to investigate were unable to find any.
Eventually, it was decided to try and move the Ben-my-Chree to a berth from which passengers could disembark by using its remaining engine, bow thrusters, and a tug boat.
This was successful, and people were able to get off the vessel not long after 10pm.
Speaking to Manx Radio at the Sea Terminal, as passengers began to come into the building, Steam Packet Chief Executive Mark Woodward said a full investigation would be carried out:Clip 1
