Consultant exodus continues over pensions reform

by isleofman.com 11th February 2015
Senior medics in the Island are warning the health service faces a crisis, as growing numbers of consultants retire early to avoid a downgrade of their pensions.

Government has announced an overhaul of pensions for thousands of public sector workers.

A report to Tynwald says measures including higher contributions, longer working and reduced benefits, are vital if pensions are to remain viable for the future.

But the proposals have sent at least 11 consultants at Noble's along other specialist medical staff, heading for the door.

And despite a consultation being offered to staff and unions, the exodus continues.
