Legislation designed to give more rights to landlords and tenants is on the House of Keys agenda today.
A raft of recommendations includes sending the draft legislation back to the Attorney General's chambers 'for a complete rewrite in order to make it more intelligible'.
Other recommendations give landlords powers to refuse to let properties to tenants who are bad risks, to demand satisfactory references and to allow basic standards for tenants' behaviour, with a landlord able to repossess property in a timely and cost effective manner. A further recommendation is that the bill should apply to all tenancies, including public sector and agricultural tenancies, to create a basic guarantee of standards that all tenants have a right to expect.
