Pictured is Pippa Giddens, a Registered Nurse at Hospice with the Senior Sister, Aileen Sharp receiving a cheque from Emer Wiseman, Director of Home Instead. Home Instead are working with Hospice to create a ‘Dementia friendly’ room in the In-patient unit at Hospice Isle of Man. The amount of ?262 was raised through Castletown Christmas tree lights switch-on and Home Instead client donations.

The aim is to raise ?1,000 towards this room which will ensure that if a patient requires the services of Hospice combined with the fact that they may be living with dementia ensures there is certain equipment to hand that will help with their stay at Hospice. Experts from Home Instead and The local Alzheimer’s Society have advised on the items that will make a difference.

It is hoped that the room will be officially ‘opened’ during Dementia Awareness week between 18th to 24th May.

As part of the fundraising activities Lady Captain of Castletown Golf Links Dawn Killa is hosting a Lady Captain’s Drive-In on Friday 20th March which will include a lady member’s pre-season supper. A bunker on the 13th hole at the club has been designated the charity bunker for this year and a donation of 50p will be made by all members who have the misfortune to land their ball in the charity bunker.  Later this year, a golf day will be hosted by the Lady Captain and will be open to all lady players on the island.

It is estimated that there are 1,200 registered Dementia patients on the Island so any support of this initiative is very much appreciated. To find out more about Home Instead please visit www.homeinstead.im or the Hsopice at www.hospice.org.im.
