Peel emerge victorious from Laxey clash

by isleofman.com 24th January 2015
The race for the Canada Life Premier League remains close to call.
Reigning champions St George’s stayed top after a 6-0 success at struggling Gymns.
Doubles from skipper Frank Jones and Connor Doyle and one apiece from Sean Quaye and Ciaran McNulty, against his former club, secured the points.
Peel remain in the box seat with games in hand after a 1-0 success at Laxey, whose rearguard action kept the outcome in the balance.
Former Laxey man Ashley Webster scored the solitary goal for Steve Falconer’s side at Glen Road.
Ayre United made a blistering start at Andreas with Phil Quayle and Sean Kelly giving the Tangerines a 2-0 advantage against St Mary’s.
However, they showed their character to hit back and lead by the break, courtesy of goals from player-manager Steven Priestnal (two) and his brother Marc.
Mark Wolfenden netted two in the second half to make the game safe and move St Mary’s up to third.
There was a rare goalless draw at Ballacloan as surprise package Ramsey held Rushen United, while Union Mills earned a battling point at Corinthians to give themselves a boost in their bid to stave off relegation.
The Millers took the lead through a Matty Caine penalty only for the home side, who finished with 10 men, to level through Danny Oram.
Steve Glover (two) and Harry Rothwell grabbed the goals as St John’s ran out 3-1 home winners over bottom club Michael.
