The 5th Round of the Winter League was played on a right old windy day at Ramsey.
The draw produced a number of interesting matches as the league standings begin to take shape. Chef Jon Pulman and Dave Boswell pulled of a great result in defeating Stu Douglas and Barry Teare by a point. Stu and Barry will have to do some work to ensure qualification for the knockout stage. Robbie Radcliff and Geoff Gough inflicted a similar margin of defeat in their match against George Lawson and Tim Eyre. Steve Taylor and Steve Rundle showed their prowess in this format with a one point win over mid table opposition, David Kinrade and Robbie Moore. The two Steve’s will certainly need to keep this form up if they are to qualify for the knockout stage again this year. The Pro Andrew and Captain Phil partnership continues to march on and really look unstoppable in terms of qualification with a 6 point margin over Ray Rowley and Bob Baggaley and taking 2nd place on the day. Geordie Waters and Ian Craine continue to press them on the leader board and a 3 point win over Tim Kelly and Steve Westcott in a low scoring game keeps them in second place in the league. Tim and Steve convincingly took the “walk of shame” prize for the day! Perhaps the best match of the day was between Paul Routledge and Toto Mazzone verses a low handicapping delight of Nick Dutnall and Daniel Arneil. It went all the way and a one point margin score of 40-39 just gave Paul and Toto the edge putting them into 9th place in the league and overall third place on the day.
Star performance of the morning went to Sean Cunningham and Peter Collister with a clear win on 46 points over Andy Walker and Fergie on 36. This puts Sean and Pete into 4th place in the League and deserving winners on the day.
The next round will be on Sunday 25th January.
