Sunday saw the 4th round of the Winter League and the table is starting to take shape with the incoming Captain, Phil Hassall, teaming up with Pro, Andrew Dyson, returning from a back injury and staking a clear intent on taking the title. Geordie Waters and Ian Craine are not letting them get away with it and will match them all the way. Sunday’s dog fight saw 3rd placed David Kinrade and Robbie Moore try to bridge the gap with the leaders by taking the day’s honours with a fine 45 points and clear daylight ahead of Ian Jones and Nigel Bolt on 42 points who had a better back 9 that Kick McClory and Robbie Lawson. The day’s matches had some interesting ties and David Kinrade and Robbie Moore had to pull out the stops to beat Nigel Boyde and Tony Kennish. The match with the Captain and Pro was against the lowest handicapped duo in the field, Nick Dutnall and Jamie Arniel with the Captain just edging it on 40 points by a single shot. Bring up the rear of the field was Lyndsey Casey and Nial McGlinchey on 32 points – enough said about that but they almost had the title snatched away from them by Frank Feeney and Ray McElhinney on a disastrous 33 points. This just proves what the changes of golfing fortune can be as the previous day saw Ray rip up the course with a birdie blitz, taking the Saturday 4 ball honours from Sean Cunningham and Pete Collister.
