I’m afraid it’s sad news for the older members of the club, and other island clubs, with the death of Nancy Callow aged 86, wife of our Life Member, Louis who was a former Club President. They were firm members of Albany when we first joined the club in 1962 and made us feel very welcome. Nancy was very involved in playing and coaching tennis and badminton in her younger days and also part of the IOMLTA Junior Coaching Committee. I only spoke to Nancy two weeks ago and she seemed quite “chipper” and we had a good gossip about club, family etc. so her death is a shock. The funeral was on Wednesday and several club members attended to pay their respects. A donation on behalf of the club, in lieu of flowers, has been sent to the Manx Stroke Foundation c/o The Treasurer, 69 Cannan Avenue, Kirk Michael IM6 1HG.
A reminder to all our young adult and junior members to e-mail their entry for the U27 Club Singles to ianwatsonpts@manx.net before 6pm on December 20. Apologies to all - I gave you wrong information last week – this is an LTA Grade 5 event, not Grade 4. All our junior yellow ball players are welcome to enter and test their skills against our “mature” members. Last year’s winners were Sean Drewry and Katie Harris.
There is a good entry for the Christmas tournament and quiz on Monday 22 but I’m sure Ian will find room for a few more./ Details on the notice board in the club room.
If you are looking for ideas for Christmas presents why not give vouchers for indoor court hire (just e-mail albanytennispr@manx.net) or a tube or two of tennis balls (see Ian) would make a fine gift for any player. Don’t forget that if you are looking for a room to hire for a party the club lounge is available. Contact Kirsten Hall by e-mail kirsten123@gmail.com . Also Kasia Mirska, Roch’s mum, has created some lovely Christmas cards caricature’s of various well known people including our coach and a lovely drawing of Laxey Wheel.– e-mail kasia.mirska@hotmail.com,
The club’s events calendar for 2015 will shortly be available to all members so that you can plan your holidays etc around the competitions – your support for all club and county events is vital.
