SMP Partners is sponsoring the closing session of the annual Bio Business Conference at the Claremont Hotel in Douglas.
The conference is an international event for investors, scientists and businesses involved in biomedical sciences and biotechnology, with a focus on assisting companies to do business on, from or through the Isle of Man. It attracts delegates from around the world to discuss the latest developments and emerging technologies in biomedicine.
Running from December 10th to 12th, the conference is an opportunity to showcase the advantages and opportunities on the Isle of Man for organisations working in biomed and medtech industries.
On the final day there will an opportunity for delegates and speakers to chat informally at the ‘Bun and Breakfast’ morning session, which is sponsored by SMP Partners.
SMP Group Chairman Steve McGowan said: ‘Biomedicine is a fast-growing area of innovation and business opportunity, and the Isle of Man has been extremely active, through the ManxBioMed Cluster in ensuring it is a significant part of the industry.
‘This conference will be an opportunity not only to hear about the latest developments, but also to explain more about why the Isle of Man has the infrastructure necessary to support existing and start-up biomed companies.
‘There will also be great opportunity for important business connections to be made, between investors and biotechnology firms, and the Bun and Breakfast event we are sponsoring is the informal setting where this valuable networking will happen.’
The conference will be chaired by David Onions, Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow, and among the keynote speakers will be international investor Jim Mellon and Dr Lorin Johnson, Founder and Chief Scientific Liaison at Salix Pharmaceuticals Inc.
Other speakers will include the Island’s Chief Minister Allan Bell, Economic Development Minister Laurence Skelly and Courtenay Heading, co-founder of the ManxBioMed Cluster.
Among the areas discussed at the 2014 conference will be funding, in a panel chaired by Manx Business Connection Chairman John Webster, regulatory compliance, CE marking approval, medical innovation and business start-ups, in a series of presentations by industry figures and business experts.
