Nick Hurt is the new Isle of Man football manager.
In what is seen by many as a surprise move, the veteran Peel player has been announced as the successor to Stevie Burns, who stood down a few months ago.
After interviewing shortlisted candidates last week, the Isle of Man Football Association has confirmed the appointment, saying the panel was impressed by Hurt’s ‘passion, enthusiasm, vision and innovative ideas’ for the future development of the Island national team.
Hurt, who has managed St John’s and Michael United locally, won 79 caps as an Island player and was a member of the Guinness Cup winning squad in 2000 and the FA National League System Cup in 2006.
His first major task will be next summer’s Island Games in Jersey.
The FA has noted Hurt has an outstanding disciplinary issue from March last year.
The body says it will soon be addressed and the panel was impressed by his ‘attitude and his exemplary disciplinary record since that date’.
