New kit for Laxey under 16s thank to Heritage Homes

by isleofman.com 4th December 2014

Players from Laxey Football Club’s under-16 Miners team are not only celebrating winning all seven of their junior league games this season, but are also proudly sporting a new kit courtesy of Heritage Homes.

The local company, which is part of the Dandara Group, has continued its long-running support for the club by providing them with their 2014-15 season strip.

Coach David Wilkinson, who has been involved in junior coaching for almost a decade, said “The team are very proud of their new kit and are very appreciative of the support. It is brilliant that companies like Heritage Homes are able to support teams such as ours.”

Now half way through the season, the Miners top the under-16 A League table with 21 points, with cup games and league matches still to play through until next May.

Laxey Football Club was formed in 1910 and has its home ground on the Glen Road in the village. It currently has senior teams competing in the Isle of Man Premier League and Isle of Man Football Combination.

The club also has more than 250 children playing in various age groups in the Isle of Man Junior Football League. Mr Wilkinson added “Junior football continues to go from strength to strength on the Island, with well over 1,500 boys and girls age 4 to 16 involved with local clubs.”

Heritage Homes Marketing Director Joanna Orton said “As an Isle of Man company, we’re proud to support a variety of sports initiatives for young people, and over the years have provided help such as this to numerous local clubs and teams around the island.

“We’re delighted to be able to support the young players from Laxey for another season with the donation of this strip in the club’s classic colours.”

Four of Laxey’s under-16 players have recently been selected to play for the club’s senior Combination team. Another young player, 15-year-old Matthew Wilkinson, attended a trial with Championship team Blackpool F.C. in October and has since been invited for further development training sessions next spring.
