The Plough sponsored 3 aside took centre stage last night as the comp was played off down to the quarter final stages which will be played to a finish next Tuesday.
With the withdrawal of one team the preliminary game was cancelled and both prelim teams entered the first round proper which threw up a great clash, Glenn, Stuey and Roy taking the victory over Cormode, Christian and Radcliffe. It was then the turn of the recently crowned Billy Moughtin champ to take the stage and in a shock first leg Ian Jones took the scalp of Geoff Howland but the Plough boys fought back hard and took the victory over the central Posse of Jones, Routledge and Callow. Then a bizarre game in which one player decided enough was enough and cycled home with his final leg still remaining, however his 2 team mate pulled together and Jimmy, Rossco and Doddy scraped through against Harley, Michael and Carl. final game in the top of the draw saw JT, Jamie and Simon cruise through to the 1/4 finals at the cost of Nige, Robbie and Simmo. Bottom half of the draw also got off to a bit of a shock start with the buffs club trio of Neil, Mark and Alan knocking out the Logo team of Faragher, Dalton and Lee. The second fixture again went to the wire as Geoff Leechy and John Verral took Mick, Lon and Nuts to a deciding leg with the Experienced boys coming out on top. Another game goes to the wire as Geordie, Hudgie and Jamie take on Higgy, Jason and Mark Brawls, the Plough boys relying Jamie to win the deciding leg and then the final game of the night saw Richie Howland come out of retirement, but not for long, The Plough team of Mac, Tye and Dan proved to be too strong for Busby, Richie and Jay Radcliffe with another game going down to the final double.
A great night for everyone involved and the general feeling was that the new format definitely works and 70% of the games actually went the distance which mean everyone is part of the team and everyone's legs are crucial for victory. Good luck to the teams involved and if we can get everyone there as early as possible so we start bang on time as next week we play to the end.
Good luck and congrats to all winner, commiseration's to the losing teams.
