Jubilee Buildings in Douglas has won a commendation in a major lighting industry awards ceremony – beating the famous Knightsbridge Estate, home to Harrods, in London.
Thanks to Manx firm Professional Lighting Design, Jubilee Buildings came to widespread recognition when it was the subject of an innovative lighting project, carried out in conjunction with the Douglas Development Partnership.
The project was highly commended in the Outdoor Lighting Project of the Year award at the Lux Live event in London last week.
Professional Lighting Design managing director Ralph Peake said: ‘On behalf of the Jubilee Buildings owners, we worked with the local authority and central government on a pioneering agreement to allow for privately funded lighting to be installed in the public realm, making a huge difference to the ambience of both a private and public area.
‘It is extremely gratifying to receive this recognition from the industry experts. We were shortlisted alongside important buildings in the heart of London and are thrilled that our project was highly commended.’
Before Professional Lighting Design took on the project, Jubilee Buildings had no specific lighting, leaving its fine engineered brick and sandstone dressing to disappear.
PLD has created a dramatic night scene in a designated regeneration area.
