New appointment at Capital International Group

by isleofman.com 26th November 2014

Capital International Group has announced the appointment of Mark Gilson as Managing Director of Capital International Limited, the main operating company within the Group.

Mark originally trained as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in London, coming to the Isle of Man in 1995 after 2 years working in Hong Kong. He has held a variety of senior management roles on the Island and has extensive experience in finance, strategy development and change management. Since joining the Group he has qualified as a member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment. Mark originally joined the Group in 2010 in order to develop shared services within the Group and he retains these responsibilities in addition to his new role.

The Capital International Group is a Manx business which provides a range of investment services including securities dealing, custody, investment management, cash management and fund administration. The Group also provides outsourced investment services to institutions and asset managers.

Mark’s new role means that he takes responsibility for co-ordinating the operations of the Group and implementing strategic projects. In practice, this means supporting the other Group Directors to ensure they can consistently deliver a high standard of service to the Group’s clients. A key part of this role is supporting the development of the Group’s strategy and also ensuring that the development of teams and systems is aligned to the Group’s strategy.

Anthony Long becomes Chairman of Capital International Limited, in addition to his role as Group Chief Executive Officer and as a result will focus more on Group strategy, developing client relationships and identifying new opportunities. David Long, Group Chief Investment Officer, continues his current focus on maximising investment returns and developing innovative investment products.

This announcement marks the end of the first phase of Capital International’s growth strategy.  In that time the Group has positioned itself for the future by moving into Capital House in Douglas, enhancing its senior team, creating innovative new products, establishing flexible IT investment systems and more recently opening an office in South Africa. As a result, the Group’s revenue has grown, even though the global economy has been flat.
A key focus in recent years has been the development of Capital International’s IT systems. The Group was one of the first to put its IT infrastructure on a secure private cloud and has implemented a programme of continuous improvement in relation to key IT systems.

As a result, Capital International’s online services and secure data services are now an important part of the Group’s services. This IT development work now leaves the Group well placed as global demand for investments increases and clients and their advisors increasingly expect secure online services.

Anthony said about Mark’s appointment “I am pleased to welcome Mark to the Board of Capital International Limited. We have a clear strategy which builds on our achievements over the last few years, but we can only achieve our potential with the right team in place. The range of knowledge, skills and experience that we now have within the Group means that we are better placed than ever to create innovative solutions for our clients, whether they are institutions, professional advisors or individuals.”
