Freedom of Information legislation in Keys

by isleofman.com 24th November 2014

The Freedom of Information Bill is due to get its first reading in the House of Keys tomorrow.

The new legislation introduces a legal right of access to information held by public authorities. It applies from the start of the current administration in October 2011 and can only be used by Isle of Man residents.

Policy and Reform Minister Chris Robertshaw is taking the bill through the House. He said: 'The Freedom of Information Bill strengthens the operation of open government in the Isle of Man by enshrining in law the right of citizens to gain access to information held by public authorities.'
